Caring For All Creation

Updated: Oct 8, 2020

Carson has become synonymous with Caring. While serving as the Welcome Coordinator, she painstakingly ensured that everyone was included and welcomed at First Church - coming to church early to greet everyone, hear their story, and see how she could be of help to them.

Additionally, Carson is very meticulous in how she holds a safe space in all of her programs at First Church as well as in her Spiritual Direction Practice. Since her practice focuses on spiritual trauma, she goes to great lengths to ensure the client feels safe and conversations cannot be overheard. Her greatest asset is her ability to listen without judgement but assist people is finding their own truths.

Caring for All Creation/Respecting the dignity of all God’s people

During Carson’s time at First Church, I have witnessed her incredible ability to care for all of God’s creation. She has shown up authentically, listening deeply to individuals no matter what label society may have placed on them or how they appear on the outside. With a diverse population in our congregation, I have witnessed Carson empathetically embrace with compassion members of the Transgender community with a sensitivity that has inspired me to be a better person when encountering those that are different from me. Her ability to make others feel heard, even if they are not able to communicate fully, simply by being present, is a gift she has shared with our Beloved Community that is admirable and we are blessed to have witnessed and participated in her journey.

One of Carson’s eminent skills is her true, deep care of others. She nurtures a congregation, a small group, or an individual from a place of humble reverence for their spirit. Carson recognizes her own need of care and is intentional in setting time aside and leading by example. She receives council as she gives it, with thoughtfulness and grace.

In awe, I witnessed Carson leading the Welcome Lunch, lovingly inviting new visitors into the community. What struck me most was her ability to draw out people's stories and engage them with empathic listening. Carson has a well-honed and obviously natural ability to hold space for individuals and groups to explore, grow, and connect.
